Bourbon Street opened as the Shenandoah in 1980. Wayne Newton was part owner. The casino was located between the Barbary Coast (Bill's Gamblin Hall) and The Maxim (Westin) on Flamingo Road. The property operated under different owners and management teams and was the first property to be owned and operated by a foreign company. In 2005, Harrah's entertainment bought the hotel/casino and closed the resort in October.
Demolition began in January 2006. Implosion of the hotel tower was early in the morning on February 15, 2006. Demolition of the lower level casino and buildings spanned the next couple of weeks. The sign stood on property for another two years, and today the property still sits empty and unused.
