The Las Vegas Tourist Bureau

19?? - 2008

The Las Vegas Tourist Bureau was a tiny building that sat on the Klondike Casino property. If you've ever visited Betty Willis' "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, you've most likely parked in its parking lot. The history of this building is next to impossible to find. The county assessor map shows it as part of the Klondike property, but the architetural style differed from that of the Klondike. It was likely built sometime between the late 70's and mid-80's. It sold show tickets, wedding reservations, flights to the Grand Canyon. Typical touristy things. LeavingLV.net made many stops there to advertise this website, and the staff was very friendly.

It closed sometime in early July. Likely slated for demolition and assimilation into the Klondike plot, it met an early end in the early morning hours of August 18th, 2008. A fire broke out and tore through the small building, likely caused by the vagrants and homeless that plagued the Klondike and prompted it's demolition. Only one small news article reported:

"Strip Casino Catches On Fire

LAS VEGAS -- An old Strip casino caught on fire over the weekend.

It happened late Saturday night at the former Klondike Inn at 5191 Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Fire crews extinguished the two-alarm fire.

There was no word on any injuries. "
