MONTE CARLO HOTEL & CASINO FIRE

1-25-2008

A fire broke out on the roof of the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino around 11:00 a.m., caused by a welding accident. It spread across the south facade of the 32-story hotel tower and was extinguished by 12:15 p.m. No injuries were reported. The evacuated guests were sent to the MGM Grand Garden Arena across the street.

The fire changed fireworks regulations. Clark County decided that rooftop firework sites have to be properly inspected, a step that was not undertaken for New Years Eve 2008/2009 and left the hundreds of thousands who flocekd to Vegas for the usually spectacular fireworks display underwhelmed and disappointed.
